Half-size curling stones (“Little Rocks”) on half to full sheets of ice.
Saturday (3 session times to choose from) – 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm / 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm / 2:30 to 3:15 pm (Please note that while we try to accommodate specific time-slot requests, we may ask that you move from your preferred slot if possible in order to balance our groups.)
The normal age range for our Little Rock curlers is between 6 to 9 years old, depending upon their ability. Little Rocks throw half-weight rocks down a half-sheet (and as they improve, the full-length sheet) of ice.
We have “little rocks” for our smaller curlers, and move curlers up to full-size rocks when they are ready to do so. We base our program on the skills and abilities of our curlers, so we try to group them together based on their abilities than strictly by age. Our focus in this program is skill development, and to assist with that, the Royal City Curling Club tries to have a minimum of one coach for every eight curlers (and often this ratio is closer to 1 coach for every 4 curlers).
Each session starts with a short warm-up and discussion. Then curlers will head onto the ice to participate in fun games, drills, and gameplay. Curlers should be ready to participate in the warm-up 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time (12:30 pm /1:30 pm / 2:30 pm).
At the end of each session, an unstructured social time is encouraged while the curlers warm up and socialize with their fellow curlers.
